The thriving explorer yacht industry continues to grow, and the upcoming Explorer Yacht Summit is set to highlight this trend. Scheduled for November 9 at the Yacht Club de Monaco, the summit will delve into topics like crew selection for expeditions and the emergence of pocket explorers.
Here are some of the remarkable explorer yachts slated for completion in 2023.
NB-724
Freire's flagship NB-724, Spain's largest private yacht, is capturing attention as one of the largest superyachts currently under construction worldwide. Bannenberg & Rowell's exquisite design will grace this seven-deck vessel, featuring luxurious amenities such as a spacious aft deck swimming pool, a helipad on the bow, and a potential owner's deck with a small Jacuzzi. With an expected gross tonnage of 7,200, NB-724 promises unparalleled grandeur.
Project Icecap
Project Icecap, a 6,500GT yacht, reemerged in the spotlight during its 2022 sea trials in Germany. Powered by a diesel-electric propulsion system, this remarkable vessel incorporates state-of-the-art energy-saving technology. The initial imagery reveals a spacious open aft deck, equipped with tender cradles that double as a helipad. Upon completion, Project Icecap will join the ranks of Lürssen's top 30 yachts by size.
Akula
Italian shipyard Rossinavi ventures into the explorer yacht market with its debut vessel, Akula. Launched in June, this ice-classed vessel combines global expedition capabilities with diesel-electric propulsion, prioritizing fuel efficiency and environmental responsibility. Boasting impressive storage capacity, Akula accommodates custom-built tenders, diving equipment, and transportable science labs within its 1,215GT frame.
Pink Shadow
Damen Yachting's first 58-meter SeaXplorer, Pink Shadow, is set for delivery later this year. As the successor to a previous yacht of the same name, this vessel features an eye-catching olive-green hull designed by Azure Yacht Design and interiors crafted in collaboration with Design Unlimited. Notably, EYOS Expeditions contributed to the yacht's design, making Pink Shadow a remarkable addition to the SeaXplorer line.
Para Bellum
Sanlorenzo's Para Bellum represents numerous milestones for the renowned shipyard. Not only will it be the largest new-build sale to a Greek client in almost a decade, but also the first superyacht collaboration between EKKA Yachts and Sanlorenzo. This high-specification explorer yacht features a unique configuration with a vast sun lounge and swimming pool in the aft space, a design never before seen in Sanlorenzo's 500EXP model.
Maverick
Cantiere delle Marche is constructing the Flexplorer 146 series, with Maverick as the first of three yachts in this line. Noteworthy design elements include an infinity pool doubling as storage and an "ice-belt" for safe navigation in high-latitude regions. Maverick's collapsible bulwarks transform the expansive aft deck into a sprawling beach club, spanning an impressive 135 square meters. Its maiden voyage will take it through the Mediterranean and eventually the Northwest Passage.
Doge 400 GT
Ocean King's flagship and the inaugural unit of its DOGE line, Doge 400 GT, combines elegance with long-range cruising capabilities. With a transoceanic range of 4,700 nautical miles at an economical cruising speed of nine knots, this motor yacht is built for adventurous journeys. Ocean King also recently delivered a 36-meter superyacht named Vãyus, with the first unit of this series available for sale through Camper & Nicholsons.
Nine
Benetti's B.Yond series pushes boundaries with smaller steel-hulled units designed for extended cruising. Despite being the second unit, Nine stands out as the most customized B.Yond 37 to date. Designed by Stefano Righini, this 430GT yacht boasts a covered balcony area on the bridge deck, transformed into a spa with a sauna, steam bath, and cold room, adding an extra touch of luxury and relaxation.
